CARY TANNER
Quartermaster - Navy
Cary D. Tanner retired as a U.S. Navy 1st Class Petty Officer (Surface Warfare) after 20 years of Active-duty service and 10 years of Fleet Reserve for a total of 30 years. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1983 and transferred to the Fleet Reserve in 2003 as a Hull Technician 1st Class (SW).
He served on the USS Canopus AS-34, Lasalle AFG-3, Sierra AD-18, Kearsarge LHD-3, and the USS Nicholson DD-982 and various shore commands. He served in Operation Desert Storm/Shield and Operation Enduring Freedom.
While in the U.S. Navy he earned the Combat Action Ribbon, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Aribia), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Emirate of Kuwait), 3 Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medals, 6 Navy Battle E Ribbons, 2 National Defense Medals, 2 Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals, Humanitarian Service Medal, 3 Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbons and 5 Good Conduct Medals.
Cary Tanner joined the VFW in 2021. This is his 1st year as being the Quartermaster of VFW Post 4752.
